has received preliminary 2004 figures for Canadian merchandise
export to Pakistan, from Mr. Jean-Stephane Couture, - Senior
Trade Commissioner, Canadian High Commission in Islamabad

- Total
Canadian exports grew from $302 M in 2003, to $349 M in
2004, an increase of 15.7% (a new record)
- Pakistan
now has the 37th position in the ranking of Canada's export
markets
- Top
5 product categories in Canadian exports to Pakistan are:

aerospace products
-
dry peas and beans (pulses)
- computer
and peripheral equipments
- pulp
mills
- rubber
and plastics industry machinery manufacturing
- The
major decrease in exports was in oilseed (Canola)
- The
importance of these statistics is limited but indicate an
important upward trend.
- These
statistics do not include transshipment from other location
and do not represent Canadian largest export to Pakistan
which is in the service industry e.g. engineering consultancy.
- Canadian
total imports from Pakistan decreased, from $275 million
to $245 million.
- Pakistan
now holds the 51st position in the ranking of Canada's import
markets.
- The
balance of trade between Canada and Pakistan is now largely
in favor of Canada with an increase of 286% in 2004.
